Bike the Great Allegheny Passage
The Great Allegheny Passage is a 150-mile system of biking and hiking trails connecting Cumberland, Maryland and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The connection to the C&O Canal Towpath in Cumberland provides a continuous non-motorized corridor, 316 miles long, from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.
The trail has a packed crushed limestone surface for a smooth ride. Built mainly on abandoned railroad beds, the trail grade, with a few very short exceptions, never exceeds 1.75% westbound and .8% eastbound.
It's a great adventure on your own - or let the Savage River Lodge (located less than 10 miles from the trail) add a new dimension to your trip.
Try our bike packages, our luxury accommodations, dine in our restaurant and sip wine from our Wine Spectator Award winning wine list.
It would be our pleasure to shuttle you to the Lodge from points along the trail such as, Ohiopyle, Rockwood, Deal, Meyersdale and Frostburg. Once you arrive, check into your cabin, freshen up and head to the main Lodge for a cocktail prior to dinner.
Get to bed early and when you wake up you will find muffins, juice and the Washington Post on your door step. Brew a pot of coffee and get your bag packed to continue your journey.
