Before moving to Western Maryland and beginning her dream of the Lodge, Jan was in charge of quality control for hotels and restaurants including St. Andrew’s Old Course Hotel, The Inn of the Ansazi, and Mansion on Turtle Creek. Jan and Mike met in 1989 during a conference in Chicago. In the early 1990s, Jan moved to Hagerstown and began to fulfill her dream of building a retreat destination focused on nature. > [email protected]
Originally from Hagerstown, MD, Mike worked as an international labor mediator and business consultant. An avid hunter, Mike also guided hunts throughout the United States, including at Ted Turner’s Vermejo Park Ranch. Before starting the Lodge, he and Jan had the Nature of Business, a business consulting firm. Being from Western Maryland, Mike looked to Garrett County when he and Jan had the dream to start their Lodge. > [email protected]
Emily was first introduced to the Lodge in 2008 as a server. She came back full-time in 2010 as guest services and marketing and has worked with Savage River Lodge ever since. > [email protected]
Since September 2014, Jennifer has led our staff as the Hospitality & Events Coordinator, and was promoted to Assistant General Manager in December 2015. She loves creating five-star experiences, made possible by a weakness for Sour Patch Kids and Pepsi.> [email protected]
Elizabeth has coordinated the Lodge’s marketing efforts from social media to print since June 2015. She dreams in hashtags, and the day that Koko & Karma will pose for a photo on command. > [email protected]
Chef Kaufmann came to the Lodge in February 2016 with over twenty years of experience at destination restaurants in New Orleans, St. Thomas, and most recently Asheville, North Carolina. > [email protected]
KOKO & KARMA at work! ©SRL
Carrying on the legendary grand-grand-granddog Bodhi's legacy, Koko & Karma love taking long naps out in the sun, sniffing out french fries, and keeping their parents company during the workday. They hold office hours by appointment. > [email protected]
